We know that music is experienced through hearing. It’s a joining of musical notes and lyrical prose, and the success of this marriage is dependent on the experience of the listener. Sometimes, musical creation culminates in simply a song or an album, one that is listened to briefly and then quickly forgotten among the barrage of music competing for a few minutes on our iPods or Pandora stations. It’s rare that we encounter a work so profound it causes us to pause, lay aside our multitasking, close our eyes and experience the sensation of what we’re hearing.

Like any institution, ORU has many aspiring and talented musicians learning and perfecting their craft each day in classes. However, some ORU students have taken the step forward to become recording artists.

Will Retherford, junior marketing major, first picked up the guitar in sixth grade and has been writing songs and playing music ever since. He wanted to get together enough songs for his very own album for a long time and finally in December over Christmas break in 2010 his dream became reality.

KORU, a student-operated radio station, re-launched at noon Aug. 26. The Internet audio downstream station plays primarily Christian music. Other programming will be added in the spring such as campus news, athletics and events.

The station caters to four main audiences: current students, future students, alumni, and parents of students. The dual-feed (both English and Spanish) station will be on the air 24/7.
