The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles rolled Thursday night against South Dakota, easily beating their Summit League rivals by an insane 33 points. The Eagles spread the rock throughout the game, with five players scoring double digits. Mikey Manghum and Michael Craion lead the team with 18 points each.
ORU dominated in every category: points in the paint (44), rebounds (36), forced turnovers (24), 3-pointers (9-16). ORU seemed to cruise the entire game, despite star player Dominique Morrison having a quiet night (2-4, 10 points). The highlight play of the game was the unexpected one-handed slam dunk in transition by Jake Lliteras that sent the Eagles into overdrive.
However, the troubling fact this game hid was the continued poor play by junior Damen Bell-Holter. Bell-Holter shot a poultry 2-7 from the field and committed 4 personal fouls, along with turning the ball over twice. He continues to be outplayed and out hustled by Craion on the boards in the paint.
If the Eagles are going to win the Summit League title and make a run at the NCAA tournament, then Bell-Holter will have to learn to play smarter and more efficiently.
