josh shepherdNeed ideas to make Christmas more meaningful? Here are a few experiences from holiday breaks.

Breaking Dawn coverI am a firm believer that in order to form an opinion about something, one must have some sort of experience from which to draw. This is why I read “Twilight” and the accompanying books in the series. I had heard from many friends of mine that the books were “soooo good” and “soooo addicting,” so I read them.

The end of the semester can leave students feeling burned out and irritable. One of the best ways to put things back in persepective is to embrace the Christmas spirit with these seasonal Tulsa outreaches:

“X-mas.” It’s the most hated, taboo phrase by Christians during the Christmas season, next to replacing “Merry Christmas” with the politically correct “Happy Holidays.”

“I hate it,” said sophomore Jacob Fitch. “I hate the fact that people are always trying to take the Christ out of something that is centered around him.” When asked how he felt about the letter “X” being the first letter for Christ he replied, “It might make a little bit of difference to someone who knows, but it still defeats the purpose, to me.”

josh shepherdThey call it Potomac Fever. Named after the river that borders half of Washington, like a moat around a castle, this disease is prevalent: affecting all political parties, many (though not all) lobbyists, and even faith-based groups headquartered in our nation’s capital. It’s a cancer that eats away at the soul, a hunger for power, control, money and recognition that decays one’s character and decision-making ability. Its spread is rampant, its damage deep... and the Cure little known.

If you were to walk into 10 different churches on any given Sunday, you would probably experience different styles of worship in every venue.

If you were to ask people in different age groups at each church what they thought of the worship, you would probably get a wide variety of opinions as well.

Some might make their final decision whether they return to the church based solely on the worship service.
